I chose this design to represent the collapse and corruption of both the monarchy under Macbeth’s rule and fragility of Macbeth’s conscience. I was drawn to the way glass distorts type to show the distortion and destruction of Macbeth’s character throughout the play as he becomes increasingly overwhelmed with guilt. The broken glass crown is a symbol for the book’s warning message about the dangers of thirst for power and violence. The bold sans serif type and high contrast puts the classic play into a modern context.
